Our Class Blog:

May 2026

In Sapphire Class we have had a busy and exciting term filled with lots of new learning and opportunities. We have shown great empathy in welcoming Miss Sawyer back to class. We really enjoyed our trip to the School Farm and Country Fair showing great curiosity and respect. Here we got to experience all kinds of new opportunities. We learned CPR, met hunting hounds up close and of course tried lots of different foods! In class, we have been developing our creativity by writing play scripts with alternative endings for Jack and the Beanstalk. In Maths, we have been persevering in learning all about time and decimals. In Science, we explored the human body and our bones and have even started to memorise some! Meanwhile in Geography we learned all about Spain talking about both its physical and human geography. In PE we have been brushing up on our athletics skills ready to show unity at sports day next half term. We are especially looking forward to the end of term, where we will have the opportunity to create our own smoothies! Another very successful few weeks in Sapphire Class.

March 2026

We have been using our creativity during Science Week as we made our own paper from the contents of the recycling bin. We had to tear it up and mash it into a pulp, then spread it onto a frame to dry. We decorated the paper with a spring flower and leaf border. While making it, we learned about how paper is recycled on a larger scale and discovered that 80% of our paper contains recycled material. In English, we have been reading fables and learning about what a moral is. We found out that they help us to be responsible and respectful by teaching us a lesson. They also have animal characters in and we wrote some of our own inspired by The Lion and the Mouse and The Town Mouse and The Country Mouse. We also really enjoyed our really successful class sharing assembly and the opportunity to share our learning from art, PE, Science and English with our parents and carers and the rest of the school. We showed such confidence in talking to the audience and enjoyed challenging some adults to join in and give things a try.

February 2026

In Sapphire class we have been learning about the importance and benefits of being active in P.S.H.E. and this has inspired us to persevere in P.E. We have been learning different jumps and balances and using apparatus to perform sequences. We have also been working in unity in handball. We have really enjoyed learning a new sport. In English we have been successful in writing a list poem inspired by 'Things I would Do If It Weren't For My Mum' by Tony Mitton. We used creativity to think of all the things we would do: have a bath in the pond, eat pizza every day, wear odd socks and never brush our hair were a few! In Maths we have been learning about measures and the children have been successfully converting between kilometres, metres, centimetres and millimetres. In Geography, we learned about The River Severn, how it is the longest river in the U.K. and some of the features along its course, we then mapped these using an atlas to find its source and the counties it flows through.

January 2026

We have been thoroughly enjoying reading our class book, The Butterfly Lion by Micheal Morpurgo. We have used empathy to understand and get to know the characters in the book and enjoyed being transported to The Waterhole in Africa at the beginning of the story. In Art, we have been developing our creativity skills and learning how to print using a roller and ink. We started off using the roller to make lots of different marks and then moved on to creating monoprints by scratching marks into an inked up block. We have been adding our work to our display each week which is looking fantastic and very eye-catching on our classroom wall.

December 2025

We have continued to have a really positive Autumn term and have been incredibly welcoming to Miss Sawyer. We have enjoyed developing our skills in PE, taking part in both dodgeball and dance. In maths, we have been building on our understanding of addition and subtraction as well as working hard on our times tables. In writing, we have had great fun persevering to invent exciting new spy gadgets, using our imaginations and applying our creativity. In geography, we have been exploring the world, learning about longitude, latitude and the equator, and using this knowledge to improve our map skills. During RE, we have been learning about Islam, including the inspiring story of Bilal. In DT and science, we have had the opportunity to create our own electric personalities and investigating circuits - these look incredible! Our confidence and creativity continue to shine.

November 2025

We have made a really positive start to the new half term and have enjoyed the opportunity to learn how to catch and pass a rugby ball this week. We have also built on our understanding of column methods for calculations and started to explore subtraction using this method, even with exchanges! Year 3 have been enjoying their first French lessons learning about the rides at the fairground and being able to name them. We children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to share our learning in our sharing assembly today. A big thank you to the parents and carers who were able to join us. We shared so much learning including our fantastic model shoes, experiments with magnets, fantastic English work, learning about the Romans in history and how good we are getting at our times tables! It was great to see our confidence, creativity and to share in our success!

October 2025

We had a brilliant time visiting Colchester Castle to find out about its Roman past. We made connections between our lessons on Boudica's revolt against the Romans and discovered the reasons why the Roman army was so successful. We found out that the armour and shields were really heavy! In Science, we have been testing magnets to see if a larger magnet is more powerful and they used curiosity to discover and sort magnetic materials. In Art, we have further developed our 3D forms of a shoe and turned them into riding boots, high heels and sliders.

September 2025

We have had a fantastic start to the new school year. We have been using our creativity to rewrite The Princess and The Pea with a different setting. We enjoyed reading versions set in a doll's house and Africa and have also begun to make a 3D model shoe in Art and persevered with covering our mould's in brown gummed paper.
