Starting School in September 2025

WHAT OUR PARENTS SAY ABOUT OUR SCHOOL...

"Our little school is amazing, I love how it feels like a family where the teachers and parents genuinely care about every child. There's such a strong sense of belonging – it’s more than just a school."

   -Ruby Class parent 2025

"As parents we couldn’t be happier with the school. The personalised attention and caring environment truly makes a difference. Our children are thriving academically  and socially, and we feel confident they are in a place that nurtures their individual growth. The warmth and dedication of the staff makes the school feel like a second home. We highly recommend it to any parents looking for a supportive and inspiring educational community."

MEET THE TEACHERS!

We are your teachers, Mrs Greenwood and Mrs Death.  We would love to tell you a little bit about ourselves...

My name is Mrs Greenwood.  I will be your teacher on Mondays and Tuesdays.  I have been a teacher for 13 years and this is my 6th year teaching Ruby Class with Mrs Death at Hintlesham.  I live with Mr Greenwood, our 2 children and our dog, Chester. I love baking, bike rides and days out to farms and zoos.  My favourite foods are mango and brownies.  I also love reading and my favourite book is ‘Stick Man’.  In fact, I love all of Julia Donaldson’s books.  I can’t wait to meet you all and get to know you.  We have an exciting year ahead!

My name is Mrs Death (rhymes with teeth!)  I will be your teacher on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.  I have been a teacher for 21 years and this is my 6th year teaching Ruby Class with Mrs Greenwood at Hintlesham.  I live in my house with Mr Death, our 3 children and some fish!  I love collecting shells and sea glass at the seaside, building sandcastles and eating ice-cream too!  My favourite foods are tomatoes and chocolate cake and my favourite book is ’We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen.  I am very excited to be your teacher- I know we are going to have so much fun together!

Transition morning 2-Friday 11th July, 2025 9:30am-11am

This is an opportunity for the children to explore their new classroom and school environment independently alongside the current EYFS children who will act as super role models.

 School ready?

We believe that school readiness is NOT just about academics!
We have been lucky enough to see the process of starting school from multiple angles...we've both been the parent and the Reception Teacher and Mrs Death has been the Nursery Teacher too!  Each role has it's own unique challenges, but we think it's really important that we all have a shared ideal of what "school ready" looks like!
We are committed to being ready to support your little people and to ensure Ruby Class is the best possible place for them to be to make the next steps on their learning journey.

School ready...

How can you help prepare your child for school?

  • Encourage your child to be as independent as possible even if it takes far longer for them to get ready.
  • Establish sensible bedtime routines which get your child ready for sleep, eg. sharing a bedtime story.
  • Allowing time on a morning to make sure your child arrives promptly and is ready to learn.
  • Never threaten them with school!  Be positive.  Support us by reinforcing the importance of regular attendance.

What can I do with my child before they start school?

  • Give your child as many varied experiences as possible: drawing, painting, cooking, singing, making models, playing games, jigsaws, etc.
  • Get them used to: pencils, crayons, felt pens, chalks, paints, play dough, scissors.
  • Share stories, books and rhymes. Read to them.
  • Count everything and share things out.
  • Use lots of everyday counting opportunities —cup, plate, knife, fork and spoon for each person
  • Talk to them all of the time.
  • Name familiar things and discuss what they see around them and what things are for.
  • Talk about what you see when you are out and about.
  • Watch people work and discuss what they are doing
